Standing Committees
All senators are required to serve on at least 1 Staff Senate standing committee. Each standing committee shall have two senators serve as co-chairs of the committee. Committee leadership shall be determined by the Executive Board, and committee membership is subject to approval by the Executive Board. All committees report directly to the Staff Senate President.
There are currently 6 standing committees.
Communications Committee
The Communications Committee is responsible for facilitating effective means of communication between the senate and its constituents. Responsibilities include:
- Coordinating with the Election and Representation Committee and Executive Board to ensure up to date and accurate distribution lists for staff.
- Facilitating branding and marketing of the Staff Senate including publications as appropriate.
- Creating and coordinating official Staff Senate communications via internal university channels.
Fellowship Committee
The Fellowship Committee shall oversee all fellowship events planned by the senate, with the exception of Staff Senate signature events. Responsibilities include:
- Athletics tailgate events.
- Donation drives.
- Other fellowship events as appropriate.
Election & Representation Committee
The Election and Representation Committee is responsible for conducting all senate elections for membership. They also oversee the elections process and representation distribution to ensure that the senate is a representative body of all university staff. Responsibilities include:
- Overseeing and coordinating annual Staff Senate elections, including Executive Board elections if necessary.
- Overseeing and coordinating special elections as needed and approved by a majority of the Staff Senate.
Bylaws Committee
This committee is responsible for revisions to the bylaws to reflect the language of amendments/changes that have been approved by the senate. This committee will be comprised of the Executive Board unless otherwise stipulated by vote of the senate.
Signature Events Committee
The Signature Events Committee coordinates the Staff Senate’s signature events. Responsibilities include:
- Annual Staff Holiday Party.
- Annual Staff BBQ.
Recognition & Opportunities Committee
The Recognition and Opportunities Committee stays knowledgeable on the benefits and opportunities offered by LMU and ensures all staff is informed of such. It keeps track of the benefits at other universities to ensure LMU remains competitive and fair. Responsibilities include:
- Managing Staff Senate presence at the annual Human Resources Benefits Fair.
- Administration of the Computer Loan Lottery process.
- Selection of the Barbara Bonney Staff Award recipient.
Additional Committees
The Staff Senate may establish other standing or ad hoc committees as it deems necessary. Standing committees must be approved in a formal senate vote with a clear statement of purpose and appropriate guidelines. Ad hoc committees may be established by the Executive Board as it deems necessary to carry out the purpose and duties of Staff Senate.
