Message from Staff Senate President Fred Puza
March 8, 2017
The past couple of months have been charged and confusing for many. I’m proud that LMU reaffirmed its commitment to our mission of higher education in the Jesuit, Marymount and C.S.J. traditions and to the values of social justice and curas personalis, or care of the whole person. As we all move forward together, thank you for all of the work you do in creating such an inclusive community for your fellow staff members as well as for students and faculty members.
I’m excited to share all of the work Staff Senate has been doing over the past academic year. First, we’re adding a volunteer opportunity as one of our Signature Events. This year, Staff Senate will be partnering with Campus Ministry’s Feed the Hungry program during the summer months when student volunteer participation is low. We’re creating a resource card that will inform staff members about all of the on-and-off campus benefits. Also, the cart parade will be integrated into the annual Staff Appreciation BBQ on Friday, June 2. This change will give more exposure to the hard work and creativity devoted to cart decoration and more of an opportunity for staff to donate canned foods to charity.
In addition, Staff Senate is in the process of developing two new sub-committees focused on social justice and professional development. The ideas for these new sub-committees were inspired by Staff Senators, which reminds me that Staff Senate Elections are coming up in April. Serving as a Staff Senator is an excellent way for your voice to be heard and to help amplify the voices of your colleagues. Be on the lookout for more details to follow.
Finally, I want to thank you. It’s because of your ideas and feedback that Staff Senate has been able to grow and develop so much. Please continue to share your thoughts at email@example.com. Or, you are more than welcome to drop by one of our meetings. We meet the third Wednesday of every month.
Staff Senate President
