Since the launch, together with the Implicit Bias Taskforce, Diversity, Equity and Inclusion has developed a workshop curriculum that will be implemented for faculty, staff, and students. This curriculum has been piloted to several key groups at LMU as well as to audiences at several academic and professional conferences throughout the nation. These workshops are divided into two parts: The first set of workshops is 90 minutes in length and focus on identifying implicit bias and its ramifications. The second set of workshops is also 90 minutes and will focus on mitigating implicit bias at individual and structural levels.

For LMU faculty, Dr. Adam Fingerhut and Dr. Nora Murphy of the Psychological Department have been leading workshops on implicit bias since Fall 2016 with a total of 56 faculty members having participated thus far. Beginning in Spring 2018, Human Resources, the Office of Intercultural Affairs, and members of the Implicit Bias Taskforce, will lead monthly workshops on implicit bias for LMU staff. Also in Spring 2018, Student Affairs and the Diversity, Equity and Inclusion will lead workshops for student organizations, including LMU’s Service Organizations and Greek organizations. By Fall 2018, all incoming freshmen will attend implicit bias workshops as part of first-year orientation.

Additionally, Diversity, Equity and Inclusion hosted the second President’s Leadership Development Retreat on Mitigating Implicit Bias on March 16, 2018. Our guest speaker was Patricia Devine, Ph.D., professor of psychology at the University of Wisconsin – Madison, a national expert in the field of mitigating implicit bias and prejudice.
